Warning, there are spoilers ahead for BBC drama The Bodyguard.

The nation has been gripped by BBC drama The Bodyguard, and fans of the show are still no closer to working out the identity of the bomber who left Home Secretary, Julia Montague, dead after the most recent instalment.

Earlier in the series, Julia (Keeley Hawes) was speaking at a conference on terrorism, but an explosive device was detonated inside the venue, and Julia's fate was left hanging in the balance.

Viewers were reeling after it was revealed she had died from her injuries, but fans still don't know who set off the bomb or why, following episode five which aired on Sunday.

'Whodunnit' theories and clues are going off on social media, and it seems like everyone has a different opinion on who killed Julia - that's if she's even dead.

One of the main theories that has been floating around is that the Prime Minister ordered Julia dead after she found out details of his murky history.

Fans learnt that Julia was secretly blackmailing the Prime Minister, and the security service was on the hunt for Julia's 'kompromat' which held details of his dodgy past.

Julia's bodyguard David Budd (Richard Madden) learnt in episode five that the Prime Minister had covered up a sexual assault as well as a stay in rehab.

The Prime Minster's business associates might not be so squeaky clean either.

But some fans actually think that David, a war veteran suffering from PTSD, is the one responsible for Julia's death, and could have been manipulated by the police and security service to kill Julia.

He also could have acted alone, as David had also previously thought about harming the Home Secretary in the past, and he strangled her earlier in the series. He was seen recording her conversations in episode three, but things had been heating up between the pair.

Another theory is that David's estranged partner, Vicky, is in on Julia's death, and knows more than she seems to be letting on.

As many have pointed out, she doesn't seem to be worried about the situation for her and her family, which could be because she's behind it all.

The identity of her new boyfriend hasn't been revealed, although many think it's Richard Longcross, a senior covert operative with the British secret service, who also could have been behind Julia's death.

Lots of fans believe that Julia isn't dead at all, as they are yet to see a body meaning she could have faked her own death.

This 'Shakespeare-inspired' theory points out similarities between The Bodyguard and Romeo and Juliet - Julia's surname is Montague, David tried to end his life after finding out Julia was dead and writer Jed Mercurio's last name sounds like Mercutio, Romeo's friend. It all sounds a little far-fetched but anything could happen at this point.

Keely, the actress who plays the character, was listed on IMBD as appearing in the final episode which added to speculation she was still alive, although the listing has since been changed.

While there is plenty of theories for The Bodyguard, one thing is for certain - you'll have to hold tight to find out who killed Julia.

The finale of the Bodyguard airs on BBC One on Sunday, 23rd September at 9pm.
