HBO and Sky Atlantic's latest venture, Chernobyl, has been ranked as the highest rated TV series ever by IMDb Users

The miniseries, which was released onto Sky Atlantic for UK viewers this month, already has a rating of 9.5 out of 10 on IMDb, beating the likes of Planet Earth II in second place and Band of Brothers in third.

Meanwhile, another of David Attenborough's releases, Planet Earth, comes in at fourth place with a score of 9.4.

Chernobyl boasts a star studded line-up of Emily Watson, Jessie Buckley, Stellan Skarsgard and Jared Harris, and retells the story of the biggest nuclear disasters ever known to man.

The miniseries is composed of five episodes, and has gripped US and UK viewers with its chillingly factual content on the nuclear reactor disaster in the Ukrainian town in 1986, looking at both before and after the huge explosion that killed many.

Chernobyl also has an IMBD rating higher than Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad.

"Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 accident, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from the unimaginable disaster."

It's no surprise that the series has rated so highly, as fans have been raving about it on Twitter, with some going as far to call it a "masterpiece".
