Halle Bailey Will Play Ariel In Disney's Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ Remake
Singer Halle Bailey has been officially confirmed to play the role of Ariel in Disney's live-action The Little Mermaid remake.
Halle, 19, who is part of the musical sister duo Chloe X Halle, posted a photo on Twitter, saying that it was a "dream come true".
"After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance - plus a glorious singing voice - all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," said director Rob Marshall.
Other rumoured cast members include Jacob Tremblay to play Flounder, Awkwafina to play Scuttle, and Melissa McCarthy to play Ursula.

The remake will include both original tunes from the 1989 animated film, as well as including new songs from Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda. It will be produced by John DeLuca, Marc Platt and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Halle is clearly over the moon about landing the role, posting a series of tweets, including one retweet from Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote: "Oh, hey, meet Ariel!"
She also retweeted a congratulations from actress Halle Bailey, who wrote: "In case you needed a reminder... Halles get it DONE. Congratulations @chloexhalle on this amazing opportunity, we can't wait to see what you do! #TheLittleMermaid #HalleBailey". She replied: "this means the world. happy to share names with you love you lots".
