We all remember reading Hansel and Gretel when we were little and feeling pretty scarred.
You know, the story of two children who get abandoned by their family and lured into an evil old witch's gingerbread home so she can cook them and eat them. Pretty harrowing stuff for a five-year-old...

And now we're about to go through it all over again - but probably worse. A film adaptation is coming, and its an even more twisted take on the classic.
Based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale, the Orion Pictures film is named Gretel & Hansel as a modern twist on the original.
It sees Gretel - played by IT's Sophia Lillis - desperately trying to save her younger brother Hansel - played by young actor Samuel Leakey - from the evil witch in the woods.
The witch from the German fairytale, named Holda in the adaptation, is played by The OA's Alice Krige, while Jessica De Gouw and Charles Babalola make up the cast.

The trailer released today (Wednesday 3rd September) gives a terrifying glimpse at the new film, which appears to have a strong horror influence.
It sees a lot of the same scenes from the original tale including young Gretel and Hansel getting lost in the woods, a delicious banquet of food that the children dig into and a quick glimpse of an escape.
There's also some terrifying scenes that have given us a lot of questions, including the witch pulling a long matte of hair from her throat. Delightful.

There isn't any sign of the gingerbread house (clearly the BEST part of the book) but we're hoping the home we all wanted to eat shows up in the full film.
Gretel & Hansel is directed by Oz Perkins with a script from Rob Hayes.
The official description reads: "A long time ago in a distant fairytale countryside, a young girl leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil."
