Great British Bake Off fans were up in arms after the judges announced a shock double elimination twist for next week's episode.

Baker Terry didn't make it into the tent on Tuesday night due to illness, and he was given a free pass to the next round of the baking competition, which also prompted fury from some fans.

But while some viewers questioned whether it was completely fair for Terry to skip desserts week, they were even more shocked to learn that no one would be going home at all at the end of the episode.

Instead, it looks like two of them will have to leave the famed marquee next week in a brutal elimination.

As the bakers waited nervously to find out who'd placed last on Tuesday evening, Noel Fielding surprised them by saying: "The person who will be going home is nobody."

Twitter was quick to react, with one person exclaiming: "Everyone's safe but it's gonna be a double kill next week, how savage #GBBO."

While another joked: "No one leaving, and potentially a double boot next week? #GBBOhas gone a little #TheApprentice."

"That was a shocker with no one going home but double elimination incoming so everyone has to up their game!" declared a third.

And a fourth announced: "Eh. I'm glad we haven't lost a Baker tonight, but hate the possibility of a double elimination in the coming weeks #GBBO."

This wasn't the only thing Great British Bake Off fans complained about during the most recent instalment, as some viewers were convinced they'd spotted a huge editing 'error' in the middle of desserts week.

As Rahul took his showstopper up to the judges, the camera appeared to cut to the part of the show where all contestants were sat in chairs clapping for the star baker.

"What just happened there? Did I not just see a clip of them all lined up in their chairs just after Rahul's dessert then cut back to the other people's desserts? What's going on?" questioned one person.

And another echoed: "Did anyone else notice the editing glitch after rahuls turn? Went to them all sitting on chairs clapping lmao #GBBO."

Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 at 8pm next Tuesday.
