Great British Bake Off fans have accused contestant Rahul of 'cheating' in last night's episode, with some suggesting the show was 'fixed'.

The penultimate episode was French Patisserie week, and semi-finalists Briony, Ruby, Kim-Joy and Rahul were tasked with creating a window display of pastries for the showstopper, a torta setteveli and madeleines.

During the showstopper, some eagle-eyed fans claimed Rahul continued to decorate his creation after Sandi Toksvig called time on the challenge.

"Bakers, your time is up. Bakers please step away from your bakes," the presenter could be heard saying.

But afterwards, Rahul was seen adding to his bakes just before the show cut to an advert break, leading viewers to call him a 'cheat'.

Although he has been star baker twice this series, Rahul struggled in this week's episode after his madeleines didn't rise and he failed to decorate his tarts and eclairs to Paul Hollywood's standards.

Despite this, he managed to secure a place in the GBBO final where he will go up against Kim-Joy and Ruby, who - spoiler alert - was crowned star baker this week despite her madeleines being described as "a bit of a mess" by Paul.

She recovered with her torta settveli and an impressive selection of French patisseries in the showstopper round.

Briony left the series after mixing up sugar for salt and serving the judges raw pastry.

Tasting one of her creations, Prue commented: "It tastes a bit salty."

Briony replied: "I wouldn't be surprised if I mixed up the sugar with the salt, after the day I've had."

As she left, she said: "It's ok, that's the right decision, thank you for the kind words.

"I am sad not to be going through to the final but so happy with how far I have come in so many ways, what an experience.

"I don't often say that I am proud of myself, but I am proud of myself."

Rahul, Ruby and Kim-Joy will next week compete to be crowned winner of Bake Off 2018.
