A programme documenting the lives of serial killer duo Fred and Rose West is set to air on ITV tonight after previously being cancelled for legal reasons.

The documentary, titled Fred and Rose West: The Real Story, was due to air three weeks ago, but was pulled last minute by broadcasters, and it was initially unclear when the programme would return.

On 31st January, ITV said: "Broadcast has been postponed for legal reasons and the film will be scheduled for a later date."

Fred and Rose West: The Real Story will now air on ITV at 9pm tonight, as Sir Trevor McDonald gives an insight into the harrowing minds of two of the most notorious serial killers in history.

The couple brutally tortured, raped and murdered 12 young women at their Gloucester home, between 1967 and 1987. But, the heinous crimes committed in the 'House of Horrors' weren't discovered until years later.

Many of the couple's victims were buried underneath the floorboards of their home, which has since been demolished.

Finally, viewers will get to watch exclusive interviews, including on with the sisters of one of the victimes Juanita Mott, revealing never-heard-before details.

It's thought Fred and Rose's youngest son, Barry, will make the shocking claim that his mum was "actively involved" in the murders, something which hasn't been said previously.

Rose was found guilty of 10 of the murders, including that of her own daughter Heather, who was found buried under their patio. She was sentenced to life in prison in 1995 and is now 65-years-old.

Fred killed himself in prison, while waiting to be tried after being charged for 12 different murders.

A description of the documentary reads: "A quarter of a century on from the discovery of the Wests' extraordinary crimes, in which they murdered young women and girls and buried the human remains under their home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester, people at the heart of the story speak for the first time.

"Exclusive contributors include former Cromwell Street lodger Jayne Hamer who speaks of hearing screams from the cellar, and tells Sir Trevor how she feels lucky to have left the house alive.

"We also hear from families of murder victims, including two sisters of Juanita Mott in their first documentary interview. Their sister went missing in 1975, aged eighteen, and her remains were among the nine found at Cromwell St in 1994. Three more sets of human remains were found elsewhere bringing the total number of victims to twelve.

"Trevor McDonald asks the key questions: how did these crimes go undetected for so long, and what role did Rose West play? Viewers will see fresh evidence indicating that at times Rose may in fact have been the driving force in these horrific crimes."

Fred and Rose West: The Real Story will air at 9pm on ITV tonight.
