Fans In Tears As Eileen Grimshaw Says Goodbye To Coronation Street

Last night's tear-jerker of an episode of Coronation Street left fans bawling as two major characters made their exit.

Eileen Grimshaw and Nicola Rubenstein didn't leave without a bit of classic Corrie drama though.

Their storyline proved to be one of the most exciting in the soap's entire history, as resident villain Pat Phelan made his return, intent on seeking revenge.

Nicola Thorp, who plays Pat's daughter Nicola Rubensteinon on the show, took to Instagram to thank those behind the soap's success, saying: "Thanks to the cast and crew and everyone at Coronation Street for making the cobbles feel like home this past year. I'm lucky to call you my friends. Thanks to the audience and fans for all the love and support."

It's unknown whether Nicola will be returning to Corrie, but it's definitely not the end of the road for Eileen.

Actress Sue Cleaver is set to reprise her role as Eileen and return to the show at a later date.

The episode was definitely a sad one, as Eileen gave a speech right from the heart about Pat and his role in the effects of his actions.

Pat quickly became public enemy number one after the shooting of Michelle Connor on the day of her wedding and also stunned the nation when he turned the gun on daughter Nicola.

His evil antics didn't stop there though and he quickly became one of the biggest villains in Corrie history.

Eileen was thrown a leaving party at the office of the taxi firm she worked in, with Tim Metcalfe making the most of a sad situation with a bottle of champers.

Coronation Street just won't be the same again! *Sob*
