Channel 4 bosses have confirmed the air date for the new season of castaway reality show Shipwrecked.

The programme, which first aired in 2000, will be coming back to TV on Monday, 28th January at 9pm on E4.

The 15-part series, narrated by TV and radio presenter Vick Hope, will see a cast of 18-30 year-olds battle it out for a cash prize of £50,000 in the beautiful Cook Islands in the South Pacific.

Channel 4 said about the new show: "The new series will see a batch of adventurous young castaways competing in the ultimate popularity contest on two uninhabited paradise islands in the South Pacific.

"The two tribes - Sharks and Tigers - will battle it out to win over new arrivals to their respective islands, with a £50k prize fund at stake for the largest tribe at the end of the competition."

Karl Warner, Controller of E4, added: "Shipwrecked changed the game, and we're very excited about the new series that confidently shakes up reality TV once again. Thanks to the amazing creative team behind the camera, a diverse cast of characters and the brilliant talents of Vick Hope, the new series has all the ingredients for a fresh blast of sunshine and surprises to kick off a hugely exciting year ahead on E4."

The series began way back in 2000 as sun-soaked escapism for both contestants and viewers - throwing a group of young Brits onto an island in the middle of nowhere.

The original show ran for three series until late 2001, before a reboot in 2006 brought a new 'battle of the islands' format that saw rival tribes beat it out to take home a huge cash prize.

The programme went back to a final 'back to basics' edition on E4 back in 2012, before finally wrapping that year.

The show proved so popular that it even launched the careers of several British television personalities, including Jeff Brazier, Sarah-Jane Crawford and Celebrity Big Brother's Stephen Bear.
