Crew working on David Attenborough's latest show Dynasties broke rules about not interfering with nature again last night in an attempt to save a dying lion cub who had been poisoned.

The latest episode followed lions in Kenya's Masai Mara who face the risk of being poisoned by humans.

After a male cub ate poisoned meat and struggled to keep up with the pride he was abandoned by his mother named Charm.

To try and save the cub the crew alerted vets to the poisoning and viewers saw the veterinary crew rushing to treat the young cub.

In an incident report the Mara Mobile Veterinary Unit recorded what happened, which noted that the pride "were seen during the morning behaving strangely by a BBC crew filming them".

The report continued: "They informed Masai Mara National Reserve Management and Governor's Camp management, who in turn sought the veterinary unit's help."

Viewers were left in floods of tears after watching the events unfold, with Attenborough ending the segment to say that nothing could be done for the cub.

One viewer wrote: "Is there ever going to be an episode of Dynasties which doesn't have me crying? Every Sunday is an emotional roller coaster."

Another added: "#Dynasties lions. So hard to film the poisoned lions. Couldn't see to focus for tears. @BBCEarth."

A third simply cursed humans: "'F****g humans again!"

The intervention came a week after viewers watched the crew step in to save a group of penguins after they became stuck.

Intervening with nature is something David Attenborough has said he is generally against.

Attenborough referred to a wildebeest calf being chased by a leopard, and said: "What do you do? Suppose you did something that frightened the leopard off, the fawn would be disorientated and would probably not even be able to find its way home, so it is likely to die.

"The leopard would go off and have to find another fawn and it is likely to have problems with its cubs.

"All you're doing is prolonging the death. So you make things infinitely worse. All you can do there is watch tragedy.

"Tragedy is part of life and you have to show it. You can't have sunshine throughout your life. And to have done anything else would only have made matters worse and distort the truth."
