Disney has just revealed the official release date for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, and it's coming sooner than we first thought.

While details on the sequel are thin on the ground at the moment, Disney just took to Twitter to reveal Angelina Jolie would return to the iconic role in the film which is set to hit cinemas on 18th October 2019.

Although production on the film officially wrapped up last August, we've still got a good seven months to wait, until we see Jolie and her co-stars back in action.

In May last year, Elle Fanning (Aurora) took to Instagram to share an adorable on-set selfie of her and Jolie donning bathrobes and full costume with a hilarious caption that joked it was "bring your mom to work day."

Just in case you've forgotten, because it has been a whole four years, Fanning plays the angelic Aurora to Jolie's dynamic Maleficent. The first film, released all the way back in 2014, ends with the pair ruling over their respective kingdoms.

Michelle Pfeiffer is also confirmed to be joining the star-studded cast as it's revealed she'll play a queen in the film which centres around the Sleeping Beauty antagonist.

The film is produced by Joe Roth, while Jez Butterworth and Linda Woolverton work on the screenplay and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Joachim Ronning directs.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil will hit cinemas on 18th October 2019.
