A third Conjuring movie is officially happening, following the success of the first two flicks and spin-off The Nun.

This time, James Wan has stepped back from directing The Conjuring 3 to make way for Michael Chaves of The Curse Of La Llorona fame.

The pair worked together on the latter film, where Michael impressed James as director, and he is now being allowed to take helm on the third movie.

James directed the previous two Conjuring movies, whereas Corin Hardy directed The Nun.

In a statement, James announced: "While working closely with Chaves on The Curse of La Llorona, I got to know him as a filmmaker.

"Chaves' ability to bring emotion to a story, and his understanding of mood and scares, make him a perfect fit to direct the next Conjuring film.

"I'm excited to be back as producer and continue with Vera and Patrick on the next supernatural adventure of the Warrens."

New director Michael told The Hollywood Reporter of his new gig: "I am a huge fan of the Conjuring films. The movies are the rare combination that delivers both tremendous heart and awesome scares.

"It is both a total thrill and absolute honor to be working with James and the gang at New Line again."

The scriptwriter will remain the same for this highly anticipated third movie, with David Leslie Johnson holding the role for a second time.

The Conjuring 3 will again centre around the paranormal investigations of husband and wife duo, Ed and Lorraine Warren, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga reprising their roles.

Released in 2013, the original The Conjuring raked in $320 million (£245 million) at the worldwide box office and scored 86 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes, and The Conjuring 2 came in a little lower at 79 per cent.

There's currently no word on when this third horror movie will be hitting cinema screens, but fingers crossed it's soon.
