As the doors of this year's Love Island have closed another set has opened for TV fans as the first trailer for The Great British Bake Off has been released.

While we bid adieu to a long hot summer of romance, TV addicts welcome the return of red velvet cakes, peculiar tray bakes and Noel Fielding's array of kooky shirts on Channel 4.

The much-loved show will see 12 new hopefuls being put through their baking paces with trying technical challenges and showstoppers, all the while vying for a Hollywood Handshake.

Although the first teaser of the upcoming series gives little away, it does get us in the mood for a sweet treat as a female reporter warns viewers: "There's chaos in the supermarket as baking fever sweeps the nation."

Aside from the shopping chaos, fans are treated to a picture of Paul depicted as a saint while cakes of the baker, fellow judge Prue Leith, presenters Sandi Toksvig and Noel dance around.

Currently, there is no confirmed date for the new series - but if it follows the pattern of earlier series it will likely hit screens around late August and usually runs for 10 weeks.

The series is normally filmed in the white tent over several weekends in spring and early summer, meaning the 2019 GBBO's Champion has already been crowned - fingers crossed Prue won't repeat her mistake and let slip who won again...

Last year, Rahul was crowned the winner after he beat off stiff competition from Kim-Joy and Ruby in the final.

Applications for the latest instalment closed on 6th January after opening in October during 2018's semi-final.

At the time, the entry website said: "The Great British Bake Off kneads you. We're looking for a gourmet selection of amateur bakers to enter the tent for the tenth series of The Great British Bake Off.

"If you or someone you know can prove to perfection and rise to the occasion, then why not apply now. GOOD LUCK!"
