Britain's Got Talent Escapologist Matt Johnson Reveals Audition Actually Went Wrong

Escapologist Matt Johnson might have impressed all the Britain's Got Talent judges with his death-defying performance, however he has now revealed that it didn't go quite to plan.

The performer appeared on the first episode of the brand new series where he escaped from a tank filled with water while locked and chained on stage in front of a live audience.

Before his performance, Matt told the judges that he aimed to complete the challenge in 90 seconds, and that if it got to one minute and fifty seconds then he was having problems.

However, during his BGT act, it actually took the 42-year-old a total of two minutes and ten seconds before he managed to escape from his chains.

Matt has now revealed how despite getting four yes votes and impressing the audience, the trick didn't quite go to plan.

On Monday morning, he appeared on ITV's Lorraine, where he told her that the trick had taken far longer than he had anticipated and that his mum had even tried talk him out of auditioning in the first place.

He explained how his mum had seen him fail before and she was concerned that performing in front of such a large audience could make things go wrong.

While there is no doubt that Matt's performance was impressive, some viewers still weren't keen on watching such a dangerous act.

One viewer tweeted: "Uh I'm not really sure watching some guy almost drowning is family entertainment #BGT."

A second viewer added: "I'm sorry, but watching someone risk their life isn't entertaining #BritainsGotTalent #BGT."

"The man is a moron. Why would you do that. I'm crying here, and not for the right reasons #bgt #BritainsGotTalent," added another.
