If you love a horror then you'll no doubt want to hear about BBC and Netflix's three-part series Dracula, the retelling of the famous vampire novel by Sherlock creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, which is in production as we speak.

Based on the 1897 gothic horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker, telling the story of the Transylvania-based vampire, who is condemned to live off the blood of the living before setting off to London to track down Mina, the fiancée of a land deal lawyer who is the spitting image of his dead wife.

BBC

Claes Bang will take on the role of the iconic vampire. The Danish actor, who is known for The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018), features in new promo images from the series looking pretty terrifying, blood splats 'n' all.

Also featuring in the series will be The Thick of It's Joanna Scanlan, After Earth's Sacha Dhawan, The Hours' Lyndsey Marshal, This is England's Chanel Cresswell, Alien's Paul Brennen, Everybody's Talking About Jamie's John McCrea,Years and Years' Lydia West, London Boulevard's Sarah Niles, newcomer Millicent Wong and Steven Moffat himself.

"There's lots of things that are challenging about Dracula," Moffat told Radio Times. "Having an evil lead character is actually really difficult. That's been the main challenge I think. But how we've handled, that you'll have to wait and see."

Gatiss added: "It's been very exciting though. Because we sort of made a promise to ourselves and the people who are making it, paying for it, that we'd make Dracula the hero of his own story, and less of a shadowy presence."

BBC

The BBC said of the upcoming series: "Inspired by Bram Stoker's classic novel, the three feature length episodes will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast."

Speaking about his role as the vampire, 52-year-old Bang, said: "I'm so excited that I get to dig into this iconic and super interesting character.

"Yes he's evil, but there's also so much more to him. He's charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy.

"I realise that there's a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged to be taking on this incredible character."

We don't have an official release date yet, as Dracula is still in production, but when it does come out it'll be on BBC1 for those of us in the UK and Netflix for everyone else.

Safe to say we'll be watching this one behind a pillow.
