'Sex Education' Star Asa Butterfield Was Also In 'The Boy In The Striped Pajamas'

Netflix's new coming-of-age series starring Gillian Anderson and Asa Butterfield was a huge hit with viewers, so much so that it's already been renewed for a second season. However, you might have missed something with one of the main characters.

Viewers fell in love with Otis Milburn (Butterfield), an awkward teenager who struggles with the fact his mum (Anderson) is a therapist, but fans of the series are only just realising that Sex Education isn't Asa's only claim to fame.

In fact, the actor once took the leading role in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas 2008 film adaptation of the novel of the same name.

Asa was cast as eight-year-old Bruno, who lives with his family in Berlin in Nazi Germany during World War II. The heartbreaking movie saw Butterfield's character, the son of a concentration camp commandant, befriend a young Jewish boy, Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), being held in the camp.

After forming a friendship, Bruno sets out to help Shmuel find his father, who has gone missing at the camp, by donning striped pajamas and heartbreaking consequences occur.

Sex Education viewers have taken to Twitter after learning of his earlier childhood role that previously moved them to tears.

"The main character in Sex Education (Asa Butterfield) is the same little boy that played Bruno in The Boy In The Striped Pajamas#mindblown," shared one shocked fan.

And somebody else tweeted: "I didn't realize that Asa Butterfield was in Sex Education?? He's been my favorite actor since The Boy In Striped Pajamas."

"OMG. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but I just clocked that Otis from Sex Education is Bruno from The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas! I knew I knew him from somewhere," echoed another.

Asa isn't the only Sex Education star with an impressive IMBD listing as eagle-eyed viewers also spotted that Ruby (Mimi Keene) and Rakhee Thakrar (Miss Sands) have both previously starred in EastEnders.
