A Grease prequel is officially in the works, 41 years after the original film's first release.
Paramount Pictures is developing a new chapter of Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson's love story, from the moment they first met.
The prequel will flesh out the story of how the unlikely couple first met, by using lyrics from the film's hit songs, Summer Nights, which is of course used in one of the most iconic scenes of the 1978 film, Sky reports.

It has not yet been confirmed who will play the younger versions of the high school lovers, who were previously portrayed by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
The screenplay will be written by John August, who wrote Big Fish and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, and co-wrote the live-action fantasy film Aladdin and Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so we're expecting pretty big things.
While details are pretty thin on the ground at the moment, it seems like the film, titled Summer Loving, is basically going to be Summer Nights, turned into an entire film edition, revealing what their summer romance was actually like.
However, some people have said Paramount could be missing a trick by not making a movie based on the popular fan theory that the whole film was a figment of imagination from a dying Sandy.

Arguably it would be backed by John Travolta, who loved the theory when it was explained to him last year.
"I love it; imaginations are awesome," the actor told USA Today. "These things are bound to happen to something timeless like this. It's so fun."
No details have been revealed on a release date for Summer Loving yet, but here's hoping that if it's a huge success, it could lead to a prequel to Grease 2 as well.
