Beloved Disney movie The Princess Bride is in the early stages of being made into a musical for Broadway.

There have been talks about making the 1987 movie into a musical for years, but according to Deadline, a creative team have now been appointed to make the project into a reality.

Disney Theatrical Productions have confirmed that the team behind the musical will include Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist David Yazbek and book writers Bob Martin and Rick Elice.

The late William Goldman, who wrote the book and movie of The Princess Bride, had attempted to create a musical over a decade ago with composer-lyricist Adam Guettel but the project was abandoned and never came to fruition after a financial dispute.

It's not yet known who else will be taking part in the musical, but the original movie featured a whole host of stars including Carey Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon, Wallace Shawn, Andre the Giant, Christopher Guest, Carole Kane, Billy Crystal, Fred Savage, and Peter Falk.

Fans were divided on Twitter after hearing the news. Some were delighted, writing "I would so go see this!" and "As you wish take my money. It would be inconceivable to miss it."

Others weren't sure about the idea, saying: "Noooooooo... don't mess with perfection!" And "Dear Disney, There's a lot you do wrong, & some you do right. BUT I DRAW THE LINE RIGHT FREAKING HERE. DON'T TOUCH THE PRINCESS BRIDE. DON'T MAKE IT A MUSICAL. YOU'LL RUIN IT & RUIN EVERYTHING THAT MAKES IT GOOD, FOR AN ENTIRE GENERATION. STOP."

While we're waiting for more details about this musical, including whether it will ever come to the West End, Disney fans can amuse themselves in other ways: by buying Disney-inspired jewellery, getting makeovers at Walt Disney World and watching trailers galore for all the amazing upcoming Disney movies.
