Gogglebox favourites Steph and Dom Parker have been praised by fans for their appearance in a documentary on medical cannabis during which they shared their private pain over their son's medical condition.

The couple appeared on the Channel 4 show yesterday and discussed whether the drug could help their 18-year-old son Max.

Max has been chronically ill since he was four years old, suffering from severe epilepsy that sees him encounter over 100 seizures a day. The teen also has autism and is required to take many drugs each day to keep his condition under control.

The parents appeared on the hour-long documentary, Can Cannabis Save Our Son? on Monday as they discussed the possibility of using marijuana to alleviate Max's suffering.

Max's condition is similar to Lennox-Gastaut syndrome - a complex form of epilepsy that typically becomes apparent during infancy or early childhood.

Mr Parker explained in the programme: "Medicinal cannabis is produced in laboratories and all the psychotics and hallucinogens, anything that some might regard as the fun stuff that gets you high, all that has been taken out."

"A bit like alcohol free lager," added Mr Parker.

The parents are desperate to find out if cannabis could improve Max's quality of life. The show has touched viewers that they took to social media to praise Steph and Dom for opening up their struggle to help their beloved son.

'Chris Adams' said: "...my heart goes out to you, an amazing family. Your daughter should make you proud with her compassion, we have a son with learning difficulties and his older brother shows the same care. Keep fighting!"

Dr David Bull wrote on Twitter explaining that epilepsy is a 'devastating condition and can be life-threatening'.

"It is outrageous that people with poorly controlled epilepsy still can't get hold of drugs that could change their lives and clinical outcomes.

"Cannabinoids should be freely available," he said.

Steph and Dom posted on Twitter thanking viewers for watching their story last night.

They wrote: "Completely overwhelmed by your amazing support. Much love to everyone and thank you so much for watching X"
