Piers Morgan Claims We Shouldn't Hail England Squad As 'Heroes'
While the entire country mourns England's defeat against Croatia in Wednesday nights World Cup semi finals Piers Morgan has voiced his anger on Good Morning Britain about the team being called heroes...
Piers Morgan is never one to shy away from revealing his honest opinion about certain topics, and his latest rant has centred around the England football team and their World Cup performance.
England were comfortably 1-0 up in the first half of Wednesday's game thanks to Trippier's free-kick goal in the first five minutes of the match. But not long into the second half, Croatia managed to equalise. Another goal for the Croatians in extra time sealed England's fate.
Despite the devastation across the nation, many fans are praising England for their performance, with many calling the players heroes. Piers Morgan spoke of his outrage of this term being used, saying they're not heroes due to them being "a team that lost a semi final of a World Cup."
Unsurprisingly, his co-host Susana Reid clearly disagreed with Piers' comments, stating that the squad and manager Gareth Southgate have "done more to unite the country than Prime minister Theresa May."
There's no doubt about it that the majority of people are feeling the pain of Wednesday's match, but it's not all over for the England team yet.
Although football is definitely not coming home this time around, on Saturday England play Belgium to battle it out for third place. England lost 1-0 to Belgium when they played them first time around at the start of the tournament.
Kick-off is at 3pm at the Krestovsky Stadium in Russia. Hopefully the England squad can pick themselves up and try and bring home bronze.
Wonder if Piers will be watching the match?
