Olivia Newton-John has revealed she doesn't know how long she has to live, as she battles breast cancer for the third time.

The Grease star, 70, revealed last year that she was currently in treatment for cancer that had returned in 2017.

She was first diagnosed with the disease in 1992, and later secretly battled the disease again in 2013.

Speaking to 60 Minutes this week, Olivia said: "I'm so lucky that I've been through this three times and I'm still here. I'm living with it.

"When you're given a cancer diagnosis or a scary illness diagnosis, you are suddenly given a possibility of a time limit.

"The truth is, you could get hit by a truck tomorrow, you don't know so every day is a gift, particularly now.

"If you believe the statistics, you're going to make them happen. If somebody tells you, 'you have six months to live', very possibly you will - because you believe that."

The mother-of-one said it would be better for her mental health if she didn't know, and decided to put her efforts into cancer research instead.

In July it was announced that Olivia was putting the iconic leather jacket and trousers she wore as Sandy in the iconic 1978 musical alongside John Travolta up for auction, to raise money for research into cancer treatments.

Olivia has admitted to using cannabis as a treatment for the disease, which she grows in her home in California. She explained: "When I broke my sacrum, I was on morphine because the pain was intense.

"I was terrified of starting it because I know it's a hard thing to ween off but I am now off it and I weened myself off it with cannabis."

In January, she was forced to deny rumours she was "at death's door" after worried fans expressed concerns.

"Happy New Year everyone, this is Olivia Newton-John and I just want to say that the rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated, to quote a very famous quote," she said in a video on Twitter.

"And I am doing great and want to wish all of you the happiest, healthiest 2019 as possible and thank you all for your wonderful love and support for me and for my Olivia Newton-John cancer wellness centre in Melbourne, Australia."
