It must be pretty awkward living your life in front of a camera. For a start, everyone can see all your relationships play out in real time, and even worse, everyone can comment on them. Even people who might be dating you in the future.
Cast your mind, dear readers, back to 2011. Michelle Keegan was on Coronation Street playing the plucky barmaid Tina McIntyre while Mark Wright was still on The Only Way Is Essex and engaged to none other than Lauren Goodger. How times change, eh?
What you may not be aware of is that back in the day Michelle actually had a column where she talked about everything she was watching on TV, including TOWIE. Can you see where this is going?
Yep, in her column for Love It! magazine, Michelle actually called out her future-husband for his cheating ways, and Lauren for taking him back. She said:
I love TOWIE. It's one of those shows you don't want to watch, but just can't help turning on.
I don't know how Lauren can take Mark back so easily, though - it's so cringe! I wouldn't be able to get back with someone who'd slept with lots of girls I knew, but that's just me.
And since the quote was unearthed by the Daily Mail recently, Michelle and Mark have had to face a bit of questioning as to how he managed to change her mind after she gained such a bad first impression of him from his actions on TOWIE.
But speaking to Digital Spy, Mark was quick to defend his wife and brush off the comments:
I don't think she meant it like that. She meant it like the situation was cringey, rather than me being cringey.
I didn't even know she'd said that until the other week, so I didn't have to win her around because I didn't think about it. She didn't say that to me, she was completely nice to me.
Still, it's got to be a bit awkward to know that your wife called out your bad behaviour before you even met, right?
That being said, Mark has clearly changed his tune quite a bit over the years and in the same interview he revealed how he and Michelle became a couple and it's really quite sweet:
I just remember thinking, 'She's smoking hot. I'm going to make that girl my girlfriend'. I suppose it was love at first light.
We got on so well, she's such a nice girl. We had a laugh not being a couple... I just knew. She just had everything from the start.
Bless 'em! Well, we're glad they managed to get over that little bump in the road!
