It's quite surprising that in 2018, women are still being made to feel uncomfortable for feeding their babies in public, but we're seeing more and more celebrities wading in on the debate in a bid to normalise nursing in public.

Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan recently shared a candid photo of her breastfeeding her baby girl, Delilah, to urge her followers not to be shy about nursing.

The 28-year-old is no stranger to talking about breastfeeding in the public eye, however, she insists that she isn't doing it to make bottle-feeding mums feel inadequate.

Helen has previously spoken about how she initially felt shy about feeding Delilah in public places, but has since grown more comfortable with it, and wants other mums to feel they can too.

She wrote on Instagram: "Didn't post this picture last night... I feel that breastfeeding at first in public can make you apprehensive, but I find the more I breastfeed in public, the more my confidence grows and it becomes like second nature to me. I always bring lots of blankets when I'm out and about so I can cover myself and Delilah comfortably.

"It's just latching the baby on first and then you're away. #normalizebreastfeeding @lansinohfamily #feedwithconfidence.

"I just concentrate on my baby as she is priority and don't pay attention to anything else around me.

"I do post quite a few pictures of breastfeeding... it doesn't make you a better mummy if you breastfeed or bottle feed... every mummy works out what is best for them and their baby... breastfeeding is just something I'm passionate about #womensupportwomen."

Since sharing the tender photo, other mums have flocked to support the Corrie star.

One mum wrote: "Breastfeeding my 8 week old and feeding out and about terrified me. Your posts are so inspiring... we took our daughter on date day and I fed in the restaurant. I just thought why the hell not. So thank you xx."

Another added: "My baby is 5 days old and I'm terrified of my first public breastfeeding. This is great."

While it might be a shame that it takes celebrities to normalise nursing in public, it's always good to get the conversation going.
