Halsey has been inundated with supportive messages from fans after admitting she's gone through three miscarriages and four surgeries for endometriosis.

The 24-year-old wrote a series of heartbreaking tweets, which have since been deleted, admitting she's "in pain every day of [her] life."

"I have endometriosis. I've had 3 miscarriages, 4 surgeries, pretty much in pain every day of my life and I've donated/raised upwards of $300,000 in the name of research and support," she wrote.

"I'm not trying to be quirky. Or different. I'm just trying to normalize an under discussed illness [sic]."

Last year, the singer opened up about the moment she realised she was having a miscarriage while performing on stage at a concert.

While discussing her endometriosis on TV show The Doctor, Halsey explained: "I was on tour, and I found out I was pregnant.

"Before I could really figure out what that meant to me and what that meant for my future... the next thing I knew I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert."

Endometriosis is where tissue, similar to the lining of the womb, starts growing elsewhere in the body, such as in the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Symptoms can be mild, right through to completely debilitating, and they include painful, heavy periods, lower back pain and difficulty getting pregnant.

The condition is said to affect approximately 1.5 million women in the UK, yet it's famously difficult to diagnose - something which Halsey knows all too well.

In an interview last year, the New Yorker said: "I got misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue, with anxiety, they were telling me I was fainting because I was anxious."

Halsey hopes that by speaking publicly about the condition, she can normalise the conversation about it.
