We adore Emma Stone here at Pretty52. Not only is she a seriously accomplished actress, straight-up hilarious, and absolutely beautiful, but she's an absolute gem when we're struggling to find a GIF for an article. Because there's an Emma Stone reaction GIF for every occasion.
But today, the only Emma Stone reaction GIF we can use is this one:
Yes, that's right folks, we are shocked and surprised. Because it turns out the Emma Stone we know and love is a lie. Emma Stone does not exist (well, maybe some girl called Emma Stone does exist, but not this Hollywood actress!) Emma isn't actually Emma at all.
We know, right?!
Okay, so hardcore Emma Stone fans will probably already know this but her real name is actually Emily Stone. The problem is that the Screen Actor's Guild says that none of their members are allowed to have the same name as another member. When Emma (Emily) Stone joined the SAG aged at 16, there was already an Emily Stone in the Guild. So Emma had to choose a new name.
Speaking to W Magazine, Emma revealed a little more about the process of choosing a new name:
To ask a 16-year-old to pick a new name is really an interesting process because I was like, 'I'm going to be Riley. My name is going to be Riley Stone'.And so my name was Riley Stone for about six months and I did a guest spot on Malcolm in the Middle and one day they were like, 'Riley, Riley,' and I had no idea who they were talking to and they were like, 'Hey, hey come on we need you on set.' And I was like, 'Oh I'm not Riley, I can't be Riley'.I had the option of Emily J. Stone and it's kind of like Michael J. Fox, and I love Michael J. Fox, but I don't think I could pull off the J. So then I changed it to Emma because you know it's closer to Emily, but most people call me 'M', that know me well. I would love to get her [Emily Stone] back.
Come on, SAG, let her have her name back! She's more than earned it!
