Home and Away actor Ben Unwin has tragically died at the age of 41.

The actor, who played Jesse McGregor on the Australian sitcom, passed away in his home last week on Wednesday 14th August.

In statement, New South Wales police said: "Police attended Minyon Falls, Whian Whian, responding to a concern for welfare.

"The body of a 41-year-old man was located. The death has not been treated as suspicious."

Ben played the soap opera bad boy between the years of 1996 and 2000, and later made a comeback from 2002 to 2005.

Ben's performance on the show won him a nomination in the Most Popular New Talent category at the 1997 Logie Awards, while in the same year he was nominated in the best newcomer category at the British National Television Awards.

It's thought that Ben moved on from acting after leaving the show in 2005 to become a solicitor.

A spokesperson from Channel 7, the creators of Home and Away, read: "Cast and crew from Home and Away are saddened to learn of the passing of former cast-mate, Ben Unwin.

"Ben's work in the role of Jesse McGregor is remembered with much affection.

"Ben's family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers."

Since news of his death emerged, floods of tributes have emerged from fans and ex-co stars.

Kimberley Cooper, who played Gypsy Smith, posted an old magazine cover she had starred on with Ben alongside a tribute.

"My first tv week cover was with you. We had years of laughter, be it giggles on set trying to get through scenes as lovers or doubled over belly laughs at the pubs after work. I will be sad for now, but I promise to tell stories of great joy about our times together. You forever hold a special place in my heart," she said, before finishing: "Love you Onion."

Ada Nicodemou, who plays Leah Patterson in the soap, told Yahoo Lifestyle AUS: "I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben's passing, my heart goes out to his family,"

RIP, Ben.
