'Human Uber' Lets You Attend Social Events Without Having To Leave Your House

The idea was debuted at a technology conference earlier this year, but it is bound to cause concern for some.

One company has created a Human Uber, which allows you to attend social events without having to leave your own home.

The concept is pretty simple - a person stands in for you at parties, meetings, or weddings, which you can't be bothered to attend in person, with an iPad strapped onto their face so you can be there digitally.

That's right, you don't even need to get out bed or your pyjamas, as these new inventions let you attend via FaceTime or Skype so you can still chat to everyone with minimum effort.

"By wearing the mask, we can be someone else and also someone can be our surrogates," explains the company behind the idea, Chameleon Mask.

"The remote user can not only communicate with people who are not in the same place but also communicate physically by making direction such as body gesture with surrogate's limbs [sic]."

It continued: "The idea is very simple that the remote user borrows the someone's body and replace the face to show his presence."

It's unclear who would be the Human Uber taking to you to each party.

Chameleon Mask went on to question the idea behind the Human Uber though, pointing out that it raises a number of different concerns.

"However, how do people judge the person in front of them as " the right person"? Can we judge if the surrogate with similar height, physical size, and dress the same way as the remote user?" the company asked.

"We will be people who move according to instructions. Is that happy? Or is it an unpleasant experience? We can live by borrowing the someone's faces. How do we feel the world real or virtual spreading in front of us?"

The unique idea was debuted during MIT Tech Review's EmTech conference at the start of this year by Jun Rekimoto, a Japenese AR/VR researcher, who has previously worked with Sony.

He described the brand new Human Uber concept as 'surprisingly natural' during the talk.

Whether the Human Uber idea will take off is yet to be seen, but in a world where technology is rapidly taking over in all aspects of life, pretty much anything could happen.
