This Zoo Is Feeding Cockroaches Named After People's Exes To Its Meekats

Last month, we brought you the news that you can name a cockroach after your ex at a UK zoo. But another zoo goes the extra mile by feeding one of the bugs with the same moniker as your ex to one of its hungry meerkats.

El Paso zoo, based in Texas, has been letting people bless a nasty cockroach with the same name as their exes. Staff will feed them to their mob of meerkats as a snack all for Valentine's Day.

People have been messaging the zoo on Facebook with the names of their unpleasant exes. The staff then choose an unsightly, bottom of the barrel bug to take on the moniker.

You'll then be able to watch the meerkats dig into a Valentine's Day dinner of cockroaches on a Facebook stream or on the zoo's Meerkat webcam on its website on 14th February in the afternoon.

The event has stopped taking names for the bugs following an overwhelming response, but there is bound to be one named after your exes so you can enjoy the day too.

A Facebook event titled 'Quit Bugging Me' explains further. It reads: "What's the perfect Valentine's Day gift? Naming a cockroach after your ex, of course!

"Message us your ex's name and we'll name a cockroach after them! We'll post names (First and last name initial!) starting February 11 here on Facebook! Watch on Facebook Live or on our website's Meerkat webcam on Valentine's Day at 2:15 pm to see them devour these little bugs!"

Your cockroach won't get lost in all the commotion either as all the names will be shown on the meerkat display so you can enjoy every symbolic moment.

"This is a fun way to get the community involved in our daily enrichment activities," the El Paso Zoo event coordinator, Sarah Borrego, told CBS News. "The meerkats love to get cockroaches as a snack and what better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by feeding them a cockroach named after your ex!"

Or if a snake is your ex's spirit animal, then you can name a serpentine after them at this zoo in Sydney.

While you might want to take the high road following your break-up and give these events a miss, we have already sent our exes' names off.
