An escaped pig was lured back home using a trail of Doritos, and we think we might have just found our spirit animal.

Affectionately nicknamed as 'Smalls', the pig had escaped from his home and was causing a bit of trouble around his neighbourhood.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department received a call from a resident say that that a 'pig the size of a horse' was loose.

Luckily one of the police officers recognised the pig and knew what his favourite snack was - Poppin' Jalepeño Doritos. This pig is an animal after our own hearts.

Thankfully, one of the officers happened to have a packet of Doritos in their lunch bag and sacrificed it so they could restore order.

They managed to lure the pig back home using the crisps, restoring calm to the neighbourhood without the need for reinforcements.

Once 'Smalls' had been safely returned to his owner, the force posted a video of their challenging mission on social media.

Sharing the video, the station wrote: "Highland Station received a call reference a pig "the size of a mini horse" running around the neighborhood.

"Deputy Ponce and Deputy Berg found him and due to previous calls, knew where he lived.

"They lured him back home with Doritos one of our deputies had in her lunch bag.

"They made a trail and he followed. "We were able to put him back in and secure the gate. It was fun!" Deputy Ponce."

The force quipped: "Crime fighting to safely securing a mini horse size pig, we do it all!"
