Britain's oldest twins, who are celebrating their 102nd birthday, have shared their secrets to staying young.

Twins Phyllis Jones and Irene Crump, who live together in Stourport-on-Severn in Worcestershire, claim eating lots of fish and two strong drinks at a time is key to looking decades younger. The pair will mark their milestone tomorrow (Tuesday, 20th November).

The pair were born in 1916, with Phyllis being 25 minutes older than her sister. They've witness four reigning monarchs, 20 prime ministers and two World Wars in their lifetime.

Phyllis' son Carl, 59, a retired first aid responder, said: "I feel very proud of mum and Aunty Rene, I've always been very proud of them both.

"I had to do an online search to confirm it, but Aunty Rene and mum are definitely the oldest twins in Britain, I'm yet to contact the Guinness Book of World Records, but I will."

The pair will mark the momentous milestone with a party at home - Phyllis suffers from vascular dementia meaning the family don't want to take her anywhere that will make her feel uncomfortable on her big day.

Her son continued: "I definitely hope there's going to be more birthdays, my mum isn't mentally well with her dementia but she's fighting fit and certainly doesn't look 102 - and neither does Aunty Rene!

"Aunty Rene uses a walking frame, but she definitely doesn't need one."

The pair each received a coveted card from the Queen on their 100th birthday, but won't get another until they reach their 105th birthday in three years time.

Records show that the oldest person in the UK is Grace Jones, who is 112. The oldest twins in the world pip Phyllis and Irene by just a couple of years at 104.

According to Carl, strangers can't quite believe that his mum and aunt are 102 as they look more like they are in their sixties.

Despite their youthful looks, Irene suffers physically which means she can't get out as much as she used to, but Phyllis only complains about the odd ache and eye problems.

The "feisty" twins have lived in the same house together for eight years, and residential care isn't an option for them.

Carl added: "Neither of them have arthritis, everything works perfectly - their blood pressure and everything is excellent.

"They should definitely be going for a while, there's no signs of them mellowing down.

"I seem them at least once a day, sometimes even four times a day - it's great.

"They both live together and are really feisty - they have to being sisters and twins.

"They don't want residential care and there's no chance of them going into sheltered accommodation, they just wouldn't allow it!"
