A Sherlock Holmes escape room has opened in London, featuring original content from Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.

Writers of the hit TV series Sherlock, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, have teamed up with Time Run - the company behind some of London's best escape games - to create an immersive challenge based on the show.

The experience is a 90-minute immersive escape room for teams of four to six people, where you enter the world of Sherlock to solve mysteries and puzzles before time runs out.

Without giving too much away, the escape room is located in a secret venue in the heart of London.

During the escape room you can explore some of Sherlock's most iconic sets with help from cast members, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, in specially recorded video and audio sequences.

The official website says: "London needs Sherlock. Instead it has you.

BBC

"Sherlock is absent. As a rash of break-ins ripple across the capital, one thing is clear: his brilliance is required.

"Mycroft Holmes has put out the call. The Network seeks recruits: volunteers with sharp eyes, keen wits and a hunger for adventure.

"Can you step into the shoes of the legendary detective? Good luck: The Game Is Now."

Tickets cost £54 per person and can be bought here, for dates up to May 2019.

Meanwhile, it's been seven years since the last Sherlock Holmes movie, meaning we've been having some serious Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr withdrawal symptoms.

However, we are finally getting a third instalment to the Sherlock Holmes movie franchise, with Entertainment Weekly reporting the two actors are on board with the trilogy and are reprising their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson.

It has been reported that the third film of the saga will be released around Christmas 2020.

Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato is reportedly writing the script but there's no word on whether Guy Ritchie will sign up to direct, as he has done for Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

Warner Bros Pictures

The first two films collectively pulled in more than a $1 billion at the Box Office so there will be high expectations for this third chapter.

In the sequel, fans were left to believe that Sherlock had plunged to his death when he grabbed Professor James Moriarty to protect Dr John Watson.

But in a cheeky twist at the end, Dr John received a package containing a breathing device that revealed the detective survived the fall into the Reichenbach Falls.

Robert's character hopped on John's typewriter and added a question mark after the words 'The End' - so it seems as though there was always going to be room made for a third film.
