Coca-Cola Releases The World's First Coke Slushie

If there's one thing the world loves, it's a nice, cold glass of Coke on a hot summer's day. Especially when you're nursing the world's biggest hangover, and need to ease that pounding headache away.

Well, now Coca-Cola has gone one better, finally giving us the gift of Coke slushies.

The Coke slushies, which 9gag reports are being launched in Japan from 16 April will come in handy portable pouches, will be a frozen version of lemon-flavoured Coke.

Sure, Coca-Cola with Lemon may have had mixed feedback since it was first introduced back in 2001 - having since been discontinued in various countries - but there's something about the idea of drinking it in slushie form that means it might just get its moment as a bit of a summertime staple.

It's an exciting move for the world of soft drinks, as we've previously had to rely on a few cubes of rapidly melting ice to keep our beverage cool.

Plus, while most of us have tried cola-flavoured slushies and ice pops before, none have been the real deal.

Apparently there will also be a range of Fanta Frozen drinks, which will come in various flavours like classic orange and grape.

Along with Coca-Cola Frozen Lemon, they'll go on sale in Japan at a recommended retail price of 130 yen ($1.21) - so fingers crossed that they'll prove popular enough to get released elsewhere in the globe.

Recently Coca-Cola also announced it would finally be venturing into another territory that we've all been waiting for: booze.

In an interview on the Coca-Cola website, Jorge Garduño - the president of Coca-Cola's Japanese business unit - explained that the company is planning to 'experiment' with alcoholic drinks.

"We're also going to experiment with a product in a category known in Japan as Chu-Hi. This is a canned drink that includes alcohol," Garduño said.

While the company has been known to regularly release new products, this one will mark the first time it's broken out of Coke's popular soft drink bracket.

"We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before, but it's an example of how we continue to explore opportunities outside our core areas," Garduño added.

The brand new product will be an alcoholic 'Chu-Hi' drink - which is a canned drink containing alcohol.

"Traditionally, it is made with a distilled beverage called shōchū and sparkling water, plus some flavoring," Garduño explained.

The next step? Boozy Coke slushies, please and thank you.
