Most parents will keep baby clothes for various reasons. It could be because they are planning more children so they can reuse them or maybe they don't want to throw away special outfits.

Whatever the reason is, rather than store baby clothes in a cupboard there is an alternative and super sweet way you can keep them.

Memory bears are a way for parents to have their little ones clothes transformed into a - you guessed it - a bear.

PRETTY52 spoke to Memory Bears By Vicky from Northern Ireland who has been making handmade memory bears for five years.

Speaking about where the idea came from, she told us: "The idea came after I had my first girl and asked my mum who sewed for years to make me a memory blanket from my little girls first clothes. She was in neonatal so it seemed I remembered her wearing her babygrows so much more from watching her in her cot in neonatal for weeks.

"My mum sewed the blanket but thought the fabric was difficult to sew. So when I had my 2nd baby girl who was also in neonatal, I thought I can't ask my mum again to sew a blanket."

"So I googled keepsakes made from baby clothes and saw memory bears and thought I could do that! So I got a sewing machine from my mum, gave it a go, put it on Facebook and things just took off bigger than I ever imagined."

Vicky said that a memory bear takes her two to four hours to actually make from start to finish depending on the material and detail required.

She can also make the memory bears in different types of teddies such as unicorn, lions or elephants.

However, it's not just about making a cute keepsake for parents, and sometimes Vicky has customers whose loved one has passed away.

She told PRETTY52: "I get lots of orders to make memory bears from a loved ones clothes who passed away. This is difficult but when you see the reaction of people receiving their bears it is an amazing feeling to have helped in some small way with someone's bereavement."

The prices start from £35 for the memory bears and you can also have the clothes made into other things like a blanket, cushion or shirt.

It's such a lovely concept and a nice way to hold onto special clothes that remind you of a special time.
