An unlikely friendship between a cat and a tortoise has gone viral after the owner shared an adorable snap of the unusual pair.
The cat and tortoise were snapped sharing a meal together by Karl Keuhen and the post quickly went viral, amassing 81K retweets in just a few days.
Karl told Teen Vogue that Tortie, the tortoise, has lived with him for just over a year.
He then welcomed cat Hamberton, affectionately called Ham, into the family this summer after he turned up on his porch during a thunderstorm.

Apparently it is Ham who is obsessed with Tortie but Karl suspects now the tortoise has come inside for winter the feeling is becoming a bit more mutual.
Karl did point out that although they look pretty close in the pictures the pair don't cuddle and are still warming up to each other.
One of the most amazing things to come from Karl's tweet is the hundreds of adorable pictures of even more unusual animal pairings in the replies.

Honestly, if you're having a bad day this Twitter thread will definitely cheer you up.
Karl's replies are full of pictures of Labrador's, rabbits, cats, and even an iguana.
The responses prove that opposites certainly do attract and that friendship can be found in the most unexpected places.
One Twitter user wrote about pet-sitting a pony and a tortoise that were best friends. They wrote: "I occasionally pet-sit for a family with a pony that's best friends with a tortoise.

"Fiona the mini-horse and Sis the Tortoise. Tortoises have a surprising amount of personality! They're surprisingly sweet little characters."
Another animal lover added that their cat and tortoise were best friends and that they both refuse to eat unless they eat together.
It also seems that cats love an inanimate object, with one cat finding friendship with a shoe and another with a door stop shaped as a cat called 'Carlton'.
